PORTLAND, Ore. – Police in Oregon say the man who killed himself and two teenage girls outside a youth nightclub in Portland had been diagnosed as a potential schizophrenic and wrote about his dislike of "pop tweens."
Police said Wednesday that 24-year-old Erik Ayala was diagnosed in high school after he threatened classmates and attempted to commit suicide by drug overdose.
Detective Ken Whattam say there were no signs of escalation in anger or change of tone on Ayala's blog or other computer records.
Sixteen-year-old Ashley Wilks from Portland and 17-year-old Martha "Tika" Paz de Noboa from Peru were killed in the Jan. 24 shooting.
Ayala died from a self-inflicted shot to the head.
