Police attacked Taliban militants in southern Afghanistan, killing six and wounding four, an officer said Sunday.
The militants were killed during an operation late Saturday in the mountainous Thakhapul area of Garmser district of the southern Helmand province, said Ghulam Rasool, the district police chief.
The clash continued Sunday, during which three officers were wounded, Rasool said.
The insurgents took the wounded with them.
Southern Afghanistan has been rocked this year by the worst violence since the U.S.-led invasion in the late 2001, which removed the Taliban regime from power.
