KEY WEST, Fla. – Key West police are now equipped with Tasers.
A police officer demonstrated one of the newly acquired devices for the public Monday.
The Key West City Commission approved the purchase of 60 Tasers in May. Police officers have to have 12 hours of training and are shocked with a Taser before being allowed to carry one.
Officers used one of the devices for the first time Friday. An officer ordered a man charged with beating a pregnant woman to get on the ground. When he did not, the officer used the Taser.
