Partying With the Enemy

Big-time Democratic hypocrisy on the health care issue -- wait a minute, is that even news?

Michelle Malkin reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is set to headline a $2,400 a head fundraiser hosted by a D.C. health insurance lobbyist. You may be aware that the San Francisco speaker hasn't been saying very nice things about private health insurers:

HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI, D-CALIF.: Insurance companies are out there in full force, carpet bombing, shock and awe against a public option.

After that she called insurance executives villains and almost immoral.

I guess all it takes to get Speaker Pelosi to cozy up to those big insurance companies is a big fat check. That's comforting.

Cheering on Joe

Democrats are vowing to punish Congressman Joe Wilson for his outburst during President Obama's health care address last week, but as liberals on the Hill circle the wagons, House Republicans are uniting behind their embattled colleague.

Iowa Representative Steve King has sent a letter to GOP members of the House urging them to voice their support for Congressman Wilson. The letter reads, in part, "We all know Joe for the officer and gentleman that he is. I have penned a letter to him that urges him to stand his ground."

King hopes more House Republicans will do the same. He also notes that President Obama himself accused Governor Palin of lying in his speech.

Thanks to Democrats, a double standard in Washington is alive and well.

Over the Line

And speaking of double standards, unlike Don Imus, it appears that comedian Bill Maher is allowed to make racially charged jokes without facing any consequences.

Take a look at the comments that Maher made on his show just this past weekend:

BILL MAHER, HOST: I just want to show you what I mean by subliminally racist. This — show the picture from this — this is from the Drudge Report. OK? We're not making this up. It's for real. "Poll Hell: Obama Negs Rise." That's negs, short for negatives. But you know what, I just think for a certain number of people, when they see "negs rise" —

Now look at some of the other ones we found. "Obama Beats Old White Man." Come on.

This is him with Joe Biden's mother. "Obama Embraces Joe Momma." I think that — and this is Michelle. "Hoein' the Garden." I mean —

Pretty unbelievable, but so far I haven't heard a word from the mainstream media about this, nor have I seen any protests from the Reverend Al Sharpton.

Why am I not surprised?

The Non-Story

We have noted what little coverage former White House green jobs "czar" Van Jones got from the mainstream media, and now we know why.

Kyle Smith at the New York Post heard from The New York Times managing editor, who told him, "This is not an excuse... our Washington bureau was somewhat short-staffed during the height of the pre-Labor Day vacation period."

That's interesting, because as Smith points out, The Times managed to cover the very huge and important story about the Naked Cowboy dropping out of the New York City mayoral race as well as one about what books New Yorkers are reading on the subway.

But hey, we all have our priorities. I guess at The New York Times breaking news that actually damages team Obama doesn't top their list.

True Love

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman had some wonderful things to say about the communists in charge over in China. He writes, "There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today."

He also says that autocracy is great so long as it is led by an "enlightened group of people" and assures Times readers that China definitely is.

How lovely.
