Italian Lucia Lauria, believed to be the oldest person living in continental Europe, has died at the age of 113 in the village where she was born, news agency ANSA reports.

Lauria, who was born on March 4, 1896, died in Pietrapertosa in the southern Basilicata region of Italy.

She returned several days ago to her home village, according to French news agency Agence France-Presse.

Lauria is survived by two children, both of whom are in their 80s.
