Embattled U.S. Representative Bob Ney has won his first opposed Republican primary this decade against an unfunded, inexperienced opponent.
He beat out financial analyst James Brodbelt Harris of Zanesville.
Dover law director Zack Space won the Democratic primary for the right to face Ney in November. Ney says Space and Chillicothe Mayor Joe Sulzer only helped him by wasting their resources and dividing Democrats.
Space said his campaign message will focus on doing what's right for the district without being influenced by lobbyists.
Lobbyist Jack Abramoff has alleged that he gave Ney gifts in exchange for legislative help. Abramoff pleaded guilty in January to federal charges of conspiracy, tax evasion and mail fraud.
Ney has not been charged with any crimes.
