New York City police say a Mexican immigrant was so badly beaten in an apparent bias attack that he cannot remember where it happened or when.

The police department on Saturday announced a $12,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible in the attack on Mario Vera.

A spokesman for Vera's family says the 38-year-old construction worker remains in the hospital and can't walk or talk.

Spokesman Walter Sinche says Vera's "completely lost."

Police say that Vera's wife reported that he was attacked on Sept. 23 while returning on bicycle to his Brooklyn home. He has been hospitalized since Oct. 1.

Police say three males beat him while yelling anti-Mexican slurs.
