North Carolina Officers Killed While on Duty
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two police officers died early Sunday morning after being shot while on duty, authorities said.
The officers were identified as Sean Clark, 34, and Jeffrey Shelton, 35. Authorities are investigating the incident, which began when the two officers responded to a disturbance call at an east Charlotte apartment complex late Saturday night.
They were shot while struggling with a suspect in the parking lot, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Both officers were taken to Carolinas Medical Center where they later died.
Clark had been with the department a year, and Shelton had worked there since 2001.
Police are looking for at least two suspects in the incident, according to WCNC-TV in Charlotte.
