New York Rep. Charles Rangel Hospitalized With Flu

Rep. Charles Rangel, chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, has been hospitalized in New York with the flu.

Elbert Garcia, an aide to the 77-year-old Harlem Democrat, said Thursday that Rangel was admitted to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center on Tuesday night.

Rangel's most recent public appearance was an affordable housing rally Sunday in Harlem. He has not made any House votes this week.

The illness makes it unlikely he will appear at an annual congressional dinner this weekend. Rangel is New York's longest-serving lawmaker in Congress.
