A motorboat crashed into a gate at a western Pennsylvania dam, killing two people, emergency dispatchers said.

A third person survived after the boat got hung up on the Montgomery Dam gate Sunday night on the Ohio River near Industry.

The survivor was pulled to safety by crews aboard a tug boat after water flow was reduced to make it safe for rescuers to approach the boat, Beaver County emergency dispatchers said.

The crash killed Martin Desantis, 41, the boat's owner, and a passenger, James Raab, 48, said Dan Tredinnick, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. Chad Marshall, 19, was pulled from the boat alive.

Marshall was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not available, Tredinnick said.

"Obviously, being the only witness, if he remembers anything it would be important," Tredinnick said.

The dam, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, was the site of another deadly crash in January 2005, when a towboat was swept over the dam, killing four of seven crew members.
