Mom Pleads Not Guilty to Stabbing Daughter, 2

A woman charged with repeatedly stabbing her 2-year-old daughter with a pair of scissors in the laundry room of a Gardner apartment complex has been ordered held on $100,000 bail.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Susan Johnson pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Wednesday in Worcester Superior Court to a variety of charges including armed assault with intent to murder and attempted murder.

Prosecutors say the 39-year-old Johnson took a bus from her Turners Falls home to Gardner and on April 1 used scissors to stab and slash her daughter 100 times.

She also allegedly tried to strangle the girl with an electrical cord.

Her lawyer at her district court arraignment said she had a history of mental illness.

She is scheduled back in court July 21.
