A Missouri man armed with a bow and arrow allegedly shot and killed his neighbor's 3-year-old Akita-chow mix dog because it was snarling at him, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Richard Jennings, 45, told the newspaper he complained numerous times to authorities that the dog, named Dale, was dangerous and a threat.

"I think I did everyone a favor," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, adding he felt horrible about the situation.

Jennings said the dog was growling and lunging at him in his front yard before he chased the dog back to his neighbor's property and shot an arrow at him from the street, the newspaper reported.

"That dog was crazy aggressive," Jennings told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, adding Dale had previously attacked his Labrador.

The dog's owners are devastated.

"You can't come over here and kill my dog in front of my daughter," Fred Kaucher to the newspaper, referring to his 20-year-old daughter who watched the whole thing unfold from the front door.

On Jan. 17 St. Charles County filed a civil suite against Kaucher asking he stop letting the dog run free, the newspaper reported.
