The Bloomington Police Department's bomb squad removed what appeared to be an improvised explosive device from the trunk of a rental car Sunday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Airport spokesman Pat Hogan said an employee of Avis Rent A Car found the device while inspecting the recently returned car about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The employee notified airport security who called in the bomb squad.

The bomb squad removed the device from the car trunk but continued to examine it Sunday afternoon on the first level of an airport parking ramp, Hogan said. He said that airport operations had not been affected.
