LOS ANGELES – A Southern California man who says he spied on mosques for the FBI filed a lawsuit accusing the agency of letting him go to jail for work he did as an informant.
Craig Monteilh is seeking $10 million from the FBI in a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in Los Angeles. He also sued the Irvine Police Department.
Monteilh says authorities let him serve time on a theft case related to his work for the FBI and let a mosque obtain a court order against him.
Monteilh says he gave the FBI information about the brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden's bodyguard, who was charged last year with lying on his citizenship papers.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says the agency will respond to the allegations in court. A message was left for Irvine police.
