A Woodward County man accused of burning a wooden cross at a mobile home park south of Woodward has been charged with outraging public decency.

The district attorney's office said the misdemeanor charge was filed Thursday against 19-year-old Ronald David Phillpott. An arrest warrant was issued but jail officials said Friday morning Phillpott had not been arrested.

The charge stems from a Sept. 11 incident in which the sheriff's office received a report that several young men were burning a cross at a home in the trailer park.

Acting Woodward County Sheriff Don Bradley said when he arrived he found a cross smoldering and lying across an open burn pit in the yard.

The FBI assisted in the investigation but the matter is being handled locally, an agency spokesman said.
