A man who holed up in a Pewaukee City Hall restroom claiming to have an explosive device has been taken into custody.

Pewaukee police Capt. Daniel Meister said police negotiated with the man through the bathroom door and eventually arrested him.

Meister said he doesn't know yet whether the device the man was wearing was actually a bomb.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office bomb squad is handling the device.

Waukesha County sheriff's tactical officers were among those responding to city hall, which was evacuated.

The bomb squad was called to the city hall about 10 a.m., spokeswoman Kim Brooks said. She had no other information about the situation, which was being handled by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and Pewaukee police.

Pewaukee is a city of about 12,000 about 20 miles northwest of Milwaukee. The city hall is in a relatively isolated area off a state highway.
