JOLIET, Ill. – An Elmhurst man is suing the Diocese of Joliet, alleging a priest had an affair with his wife while serving as the couple's marriage counselor.
Stephen Crane filed the lawsuit in Will County on Thursday, alleging former priest Christopher Floss caused the couple's divorce. Crane says he's suffered economic losses, the result of quitting his job to care for the couple's children.
The 52-year-old Crane is seeking at least $450,000 in damages.
The affair allegedly lasted through the couple's 2007 divorce. The lawsuit states Floss left the priesthood and now lives with 44-year-old Maureen Crane.
Floss could not be reached to comment. A diocesan spokesperson did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
