Police in Maine arrested a man they say was loading a hunting rifle outside a church and planning to harm someone inside.

Portland police said Monday that an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting was apparently under way in the basement of the First Parish Church. No services were in progress.

Herbert Jones of Portland is being held on $100,000 bail on felony charges including stalking and firearms possession by a felon.

Police also recovered a shotgun and charged a second man, who was not immediately identified.

A resource officer at nearby Portland High was making a routine check of school doors and arrested Jones. The principal says the school was never in danger.

Jail records list no attorney for Jones.
