She's got her own shop now.
Not many feature films can support a spin-off, but in "Beauty Shop" (search), which opens Wednesday, Queen Latifah (search) goes solo, bringing her hair salon secrets from "Barbershop 2" to your local theater.
"I think this differs hugely from "Barbershop" -- I mean, [it] just really has a different vibe and tone to it," Latifah, who was Oscar-nominated for "Chicago," told FOX News.
As owner of a new salon in Atlanta, Latifah, who plays Gina Norris, her hairstylist character from "Barbershop 2," competes against her cruel, snooty former boss, played by Kevin Bacon (search).
"It's about Gina and her family story and her travels that she takes. I think it mirrors "Barbershop" in the sense that it's humorous and it has a lot of heart," Latifah said.
Actress Alfre Woodard (search), who plays a stylist in the film, said the movie is an inside peek at girl talk.
"[A beauty shop] is a place where you get to be a girl as a grown-up woman. It's like a big in-the-middle-of-the-day slumber party -- you can talk about whatever you want," she told FOX.
Mena Suvari and Andie MacDowell also star as clients, and Alicia Silverstone plays the salon's only white stylist.
And while bad hair and gossip may not appeal to the guys, the movie could help them in other ways.
"We definitely talk about men in beauty shops ... you can find out what we think," Latifah said.
