Election officials say partial results from Kyrgyzstan's presidential election give incumbent Kurmanbek Bakiyev a commanding lead of 90 percent of the votes that have been counted.

The Central Election Commission released partial results early Friday based on returns from 15 percent of polling districts.

The main opposition candidate has dismissed Thursday's election as fraudulent and called for a rerun. Almazbek Atambayev claimed widespread ballot-stuffing and the intimidation of opposition election monitors.

He also charged that official turnout of nearly 80 percent was inflated.

The dispute could heighten political tensions in the Central Asian nation, which hosts a U.S. air base crucial to operations in Afghanistan.
