Taylor Swift seemed pretty surprised herself to have won the VMA for Best Female Music Video on Sunday evening, but the real shock came when Kanye West suddenly burst onto the stage and rudely stole the microphone from the country crooner during her acceptance speech.
"Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time," West said. "One of the best videos of all time!"
A clearly embarrassed Swift stood motionless, not knowing what to do as West continued his rant. Eventually, audience members rose to their feet and booed the rapper down as cameras captured a mortified Beyonce. West took his seat (to make matters worse, time was up and Swift didn't even have a chance to fire back) and controversy continued to ensue as a multitude of celebs told him off, prompting security to circle the area.
Pop Tarts learned that Swift was comforted by her friends and family immediately afterwards and was upset by the whole incident. An inside source told Tarts that West was asked by a big-wig at MTV to immediately leave the show. Pink also took to Twitter to confirm that Mr. West had been given his marching orders.
"Kanye west is the biggest piece of sh** on earth. Quote me," Pink tweeted. "My heart goes out to taylor swift. She is a sweet and talented girl and deserved her moment. She should know we love her. Beyonce is a classy lady. I feel for her too. It's not her fault at all, and her and taylor did their thing. And douche bag got kicked out. HA"
Diddy later took to the stage to present an award, but the second "Kanye" was uttered again the crowd booed and "Taylor" was chanted through Radio City Hall, the tension reaching a high point when West's nominated video was played.
Beyonce's hit "Single Ladies" eventually got all it deserved by taking on the big one - Video of the Year. The ever-classy Knowles dedicated her time to Swift and had the emotional teen idol return to the stage for the opportunity to give her acceptance without any interruption.
The controversy certainly stole the spotlight from what was anticipated to be the show highlight — Madonna opening for Janet Jackson and her tribute to brother Michael.
The Queen of Pop did let us in a little secret however, she did go on a few "dates" with the late King of Pop and that she felt an overwhelming sense of guilt that she had "abandoned" him after hearing of his sudden passing. But on a (kind of) positive note, her sons aged nine and four are now "obsessed" with MJ.
"There is a lot of crotch grabbing and moon walking going on in my house," Madonna said.
We then spotted Joe Jackson smiling through Janet's intense performance while Jermaine was straight-faced, absorbing the moment.
Tinsley Mortimer No Match For Anna Wintour, Lindsay & Sam A-No Show
Sitting front row and center for Charlotte Ronson's showing at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week on Friday morning was Tinsley Mortimer, who despite being the Big Apple's most sought-after socialite, isn't afraid to admit she wasn't good enough for Vogue's Anna Wintour.
"I am a girly girl and came from Virgina and lucked out with a job as an assistant to Amy Astley at Vogue Magazine," Mortimer told Tarts. "But I was never to have interaction with Anna (Wintour), you just don't talk to Anna unless you're much higher up."
And despite being the head designer of a line of handbags and clothing in Japan for Samantha Thavasa, Mortimer admitted she still won't be satisfied until she has "her very own fashion line that's all physically" hers.
Also in attendance at the highly-anticipated Charlotte Ronson show, which featured an 80's-inspired collection of high buns, thick leather belts, braided headbands, sheer leggings, pleather and chiffon, was music big-wig Mark Ronson, Brooklyn Decker and Nicky Hilton.
And while she seated front row at Fashion Week in February, Lindsay Lohan was a no show this year. But could her reportedly rekindled romance with Samantha be the reason she stayed well away?
"I'm not surprised [she wasn't] there," a source close to the Ronson family said. "Put it this way, they aren't exactly Lohan fans."
Linds caused chaos at West Hollywood's Chateau Marmont earlier this year when security refused to let the troubled actress into Charlotte Ronson's launch party and she consequently went wild, knocking on random doors at the hotel.
Lindsay was however in town and was spotted at Bloomingdale's that day, while Sam did turn the tables at her sister's SVEDKA after-party at Abe & Arthur's Restaurant on 14th St. Guests including Kirsten Dunst, Nicky Hilton, Avril Lavigne, Amanda Bynes, Andy Samberg, Tinsley Mortimer and Erin Lucas.
Jay-Z Apologizes For Bad Language, Rihanna Inspired By Madonna?
Hip Hop King Jay-Z (almost) brought the roof down as he kicked off the ABSOLUT® VODKA Concert Series at Madison Square Garden with a One-Night-Only Charity Performance on September 11 to benefit New York's Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund.
Concert-goers rose to their feet for the National Anthem - played out like Jimi Hendrix's solo guitar version made famous in Woodstock 1969.
With a sparkling view of New York City in the background, Jay-Z was joined on stage by a star-studded lineup through the night including his prodigy Rihanna and Santo Gold, wifey Beyonce and pals Mary J Blige, Pharrell, John Mayer, Diddy and Kanye West.
But back to Rih Rih, she is certainly looking better than ever since getting out of the seemingly not-so-healthy relationship with Chris Brown as she caused jaws to drop in her tight-black bodysuit (Beyonce inspired perhaps?) and new blonde bangs.
"We're here to celebrate life, I apologize for the language," Jay-Z said at the end while having the crowd raise their hands to make a peace sign. "Thanks to everyone who lost their lives so we can live ours."
