A Florida judge says an autopsy can go forward on a man who wanted his body frozen until it could be brought back to life.
Circuit Judge Martha J. Cook told the Hillsborough County medical examiner on Thursday to resume the autopsy on Michael Ned Miller, 48. The Navy veteran was found dead in his Tampa apartment last week, 10 days after leg surgery.
Miller had signed a contract four years ago with Alcor Life Extension Foundation Inc. The Scottsdale, Ariz., firm freezes bodies and heads in the hopes that they can be brought back to life in the future.
Alcor sued to block the autopsy. It argued that an autopsy would "seriously impair the cryonic process" and "frustrate the purpose" of the body freezing: to keep his body preserved.
