A Pittsburgh high school teacher is suspended after being charged with heroin possession during a traffic stop.
Police charged 51-year-old Mary Steck with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon. Police say the drugs were in Steck's purse but department officials didn't immediately return a call seeking details.
Steck is a science teacher at Perry Traditional Academy, one of several high schools in the Pittsburgh Public Schools system.
A district spokeswoman says only that a Perry teacher has been suspended after an investigation that began Wednesday.
It's not clear if Steck has an attorney. The Associated Press could not immediately locate a home telephone number for her.
