Veterans of Foreign Wars has donated $100,000 to a new memorial in the nation's capital honoring America's disabled veterans.

The Kansas City-based veterans support organization made the donation earlier this month to the Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which is expected to open in 2010 in Washington near the Capitol.

Lois Pope, philanthropists and co-founder of the Disabled Veterans Life Memorial Foundation, challenged all 50 states this week to support the memorial and an estimated 3 million living disabled veterans. Pope has promised to match up to $5 million total in donations, according to a news release from the foundation.

The foundation says it has raised more than $10 million for the project so far. The foundation has a goal of $65 million for the memorial, which former President Clinton authorized in 2000.
