A former newspaper executive was found shot to death in his apartment, which had been set on fire, authorities said.
The body of William McMichael Jones, former president of the Tribune-Review Publishing Co., was found Wednesday morning after fire broke out in his apartment, authorities said.
Jones, 75, had apparently been shot in the head, police Chief John Berger said.
Police announced Thursday they had retrieved a car belonging to Jones in a wooded area about 10 miles away. Authorities had said they believed the 1990 Cadillac had been stolen by the killer.
No arrests had been made.
Jones was the grandson of the founder of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp.
He was president of the Tribune-Review Publishing Co. in Greensburg from 1983 to 1988. Prior to that, he was the company's marketing director and then vice president and general manager.
The company publishes the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and several other western Pennsylvania newspapers.
"He was a very gregarious kind of guy," David Purnell, a friend, told the Pittsburgh paper. "I can't imagine Mike having any enemies."
Ligonier is about 45 miles east of Pittsburgh.
