Former Georgia Newspaper Reporter Attempts Bank Robbery
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah authorities say a former newspaper reporter has been arrested and charged with trying to rob a bank with a shotgun.
FBI special agent William Kirkconnell said 52-year-old Donald Lowery carried a sawed-off shotgun into a Bank South branch on Savannah's suburban south side Monday. Kirkconnell said a bank customer managed to restrain Lowery before police arrived.
Lowery left his job as a reporter for the Savannah Morning News earlier this year. He had covered neighboring Effingham County for the newspaper since 1989.
