A Phoenix homicide case going back more than 20 years may finally be solved after a man who said he was strung out on drugs and later turn his life around surrendered.
Phoenix police announced Wednesday that 52-year-old Kenneth Jackson walked into police headquarters Tuesday and confessed to killing 78-year-old Marlin Darton in November of 1988.
Jackson told police he was on drugs when he went to Darton's home and proceeded to rob and kill the old man.
After the killing, Jackson said he fled to southern California, kicked drugs and over time, turned his life around.
Jackson told police that after 21 years of living with what he'd done, he chose to turn himself in.
Phoenix police booked Jackson into jail on one count of first degree murder and one count of armed robbery.
