A 76-year-old Florida resident has been charged with bludgeoning to death a blind woman in upstate New York 37 years ago.
Authorities in Rochester said Tuesday that James Kimble, a convicted sex offender in Sarasota, Fla., is expected to be extradited to New York. He was charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 29, 1972, slaying of Annie Mae Cray.
DNA recovered from a blanket on Cray's bed was matched with a DNA sample taken from Kimble. Cray's husband, Ezra, who was beaten in the attack at their home, has since died.
Kimble, who turns 77 on Friday, spent seven years in prison for the attempted rape of a 6-year-old girl in 1973. A decade later, he was imprisoned for 10 years for raping a 17-year-old girl.
