The Vancouver father and son accused of brutally beating a cross-country skier and taking his car are due to make their first court appearance Tuesday in Skamania County Superior Court in Stevenson.

Sheriff's detectives flew with 33-year-old Michael David Collins and his 16-year-old son Tevin Collins back from Mexico where they were arrested Wednesday after a tip generated by the "America's Most Wanted" TV show. They arrived Monday night at Portland International Airport.

They are charged with attempted murder and robbery in an attack Feb. 9 on 52-year-old Robert Kevin Tracey of Washougal as he was cross-country skiing in a remote area.

Prosecutors say he was beaten and choked and left for dead. He was found by three hikers.
