Eight middle school students were injured Thursday after their school bus crashed with a minivan on their way to school in Valrico, Fla., MyFoxTampaBay.com reported.

A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said the students were not seriously injured in the Thursday morning accident.

The bus had 28 students on board headed to Mulrennan Middle School, about 15 miles east of Tampa. The driver of the van ran a stop sign and struck the bus on the left side, authorities said.

Hillsborough Fire Rescue crews told MyFoxTampaBay.com that the driver of the van needed to be extracted from the vehicle and was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.

The eight injured children complained of head and neck injuries and were treated at a hospital.
