Drug traffickers have killed at least 8 Iranian security forces and injured two others in armed clashes in southeastern Iran, state-run television reported Sunday.

The broadcast said clashes took place late Saturday in Kenar Naei, a region in southeastern Iran.

The television no further details, but said police operations were underway to clean the area from the drug traffickers. The television said it was not yet clear whether any of the drug traffickers were killed in the exchange of fire.
