A judge in Will County set a trial date in the gun charges case against former police officer Drew Peterson.
In an unrelated case, authorities earlier named the Bolingbrook man a suspect in the October disappearance of his wife, Stacy. He hasn't been charged in that case.
Authorities arrested Peterson in May for possessing an assault rifle with a barrel shorter than allowed by state law and for unlawfully transferring the rifle to his son. The two felony charges each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
At a Thursday status hearing, the judge set a December 8th trial date. He also scheduled a pretrial hearing for September 18th.
Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, hasn't returned a message seeking comment.
