Denver Reportedly Has More Pot Dispensaries Than Starbucks Shops

Denver has been crowned “America’s Cannabis Capital” by marijuana advocates, reported Tuesday.

When medical marijuana dispensaries are calculated per capita, Denver beats out all other cities, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws reported, according to the Web site.

Denver City Council voted Monday to regulate medical pot dispensaries, the Web site reported. To date, 390 dispensaries have filed an application for a city sales tax license to sell medical marijuana, City Treasurer Steve Ellington reportedly said.

This number indicates there are more dispensaries in Denver than there are Starbucks coffee shops in the whole state of Colorado. There are 208 Starbucks in the state, reported.

Compare that to Los Angeles, with four million residents, which has one dispensary for every 4,065 residents. Denver’s population is a mere 598,707, but has one dispensary for every 1,535 residents, according to
