A wife is charged with strangling her 250-pound husband in their upper middle class home while her 7-year-old daughter slept in a nearby bedroom, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Kelly Forbes, 29, is accused of using an electrical cord to strangle Michael Forbes, 50, and is charged with second-degree murder, said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone.

The couple married in September after knowing each other for about a year, said Repalone.

Police didn't know whether the suspect has a lawyer, and no telephone number could be found for the couple. The child has been turned over to relatives.

Forbes, who worked in real estate in Brooklyn, was unresponsive, but alive, when officers arrived Wednesday after a 911 call, said Repalone.

He died shortly afterward at a hospital and the Nassau County medical examiner determined the cause was asphyxiation, Repalone said.

Police would not comment on the possible motive or how the 5-foot-5-inch, 150 pound woman was allegedly able to overpower the 6-foot-1-inch, 250 pound man.

"Toxicology tests are being done on the victim" to determine if there were drugs in the victim's system, said Repalone.
