A Connecticut man allegedly beat several people with a two-by-four while screaming that he was "the Son of Jesus" after spending the morning reading the Bible, the Hartford Courant reported.
Manchester police say 24-year-old Ruben Vasquez struck a police officer, two children ages 1 and 3 and two other men while leading officers on a foot chase down East Center and Holl streets Tuesday morning.
Police suspect Vasquez was "on something" at the time of the alleged assault, the Courant reported.
Police received a call at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday and were told a man was running down the street, screaming he was the son of Jesus and hitting people with a board, the newspaper reported.
Vasquez was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, four counts of second-degree assault, assault on a police officer, criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police, disorderly conduct and attempted first-degree assault, the newspaper reported.
Bond was set at $100,000.
The children, men and the officer were treated at Manchester Memorial Hospital and released.
