Cleveland, which already has the same number of homicides this year that it recorded for all of 2006, is offering to give people who give up their guns a $100 gas card.
The first 450 people who show up at the convention center on Saturday and surrender a working handgun will receive a card.
There have been 119 homicides in Cleveland so far this year, tying the total for 2006.
Gasoline prices have surged in recent weeks, with the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas at $3.07 last weekend, 25 cents more than Oct. 22.
