Chicago police reported Friday that a 6-year-old boy and an adult male are both in critical condition following an apparent home invasion on the city's West Side.

The child was shot in the head, and the adult was shot and stabbed. A second adult male was pistol-whipped, said Interim Police Superintendent Dana Starks.

Police are looking for four individuals who fled the scene in a gold-colored car, Starks said.

The victims are related, said Police Commander Juan Rivera. Police found a safe in the apartment that was open; they're trying to determine if any contents are missing.

It appears the suspects used the threat of a gun to force their way into the apartment, said Rivera.
