A man who was acquitted by a Cook County jury in the 2001 slaying of a 4-year-old boy has himself been gunned down.
Terrence Ligon had been charged in the shooting of Robert Anderson. The boy was shot to death as he played outside his home on Chicago's South Side.
According to authorities, the 34-year-old Ligon was sitting in his auto late Monday when gunmen approached and opened fire. He later died at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Ligon was charged with firing shots from his sports utility vehicle, killing the child. At trial, his lawyers claimed Ligon had been fired on first and was defending himself.
The not guilty verdict last November followed a mistrial after someone reportedly tried to photograph jurors outside the courthouse with a cell phone.
