A member of a homegrown terrorist group has been found guilty of participating in a plot to set off truck bombs in front of Canada's main stock exchange and two government buildings.
Dan Brien, a spokesman with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, said Thursday that the prosecution established Shareef Abdelhaleem's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Brien says the defense elected not to provide any evidence to establish his guilt or innocence.
Abdelhaleem has not been convicted because the defense has filed a notice seeking to stay the case on the basis of entrapment.
Abdelhaleem and 17 others were arrested and charged with terrorism offenses in 2006. The group came to be known as the "Toronto 18."
