A man who staged an hours-long standoff near the West Los Angeles Federal Building has been charged with threatening to blow up the White House.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says 56-year-old Joseph Moshe of Los Angeles was charged Monday with making a false bomb threat and attempted criminal threats. He remained jailed on $70,000 bail.
Moshe is suspected of calling a police dispatch number last Wednesday and making threats. A day later, after a chase, he was surrounded by police and Secret Service agents near the federal building.
Authorities say he refused to leave his red Volkswagen Beetle for more than eight hours, even after agents tossed chemical agents inside the car.
He was eventually stunned with a Taser gun and pulled from the vehicle.
