Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will have dinner at the White House April 26 with President Bush, then join him the next day for a visit to Camp David, it was announced Wednesday.
It will be Abe's first visit to the United States since becoming prime minister last September.
Deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino said the two leaders will discuss their close cooperation in global affairs and their "continuing strong cooperation in bilateral alliance matters and in economic relations."
Perino said international topics to be covered include Iraq, the next steps in the talks on North Korean disarmament and energy and climate policies.
Last month, Japan's parliament approved a two-year extension of its airlift mission in support of Iraqi reconstruction.
Tokyo has backed the U.S.-led Iraq invasion and provided troops for a non-combat, humanitarian mission in the southern city of Samawah beginning in 2004.
Japan withdrew its ground troops in July 2006 and has since expanded its Kuwait-based air operations.
