Body of Fourth Lynn University Student Found in Haiti

The body of a fourth Lynn University student was found in the rubble of a collapsed hotel in Haiti, school officials announced Sunday.

Britney Gengel, a sophomore at the university in Boca Raton, Fla., and three other students and two faculty members were unaccounted for after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti last month.

The U.S. State Department has now recovered the remains of all six people who were staying at the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince when the quake struck. Gengel and the others were part of a larger group on a humanitarian mission in Haiti. Eight other members of that group were evacuated from the country and returned to Florida.

“While at Lynn, Britney triumphed academically and socially and was a true inspiration to the Lynn community and the community at large," Lynn University President Kevin Ross said in a statement released Sunday.

"She was a beautiful young woman who gave her life serving others," he said. "We will miss her terribly."

School officials said on Saturday that one of its faculty members, Richard Bruno, 59, had been officially declared dead.

Bruno, an assistant professor in Lynn's College of Liberal Education, joined the university four years ago.
