Blind masseurs clashed with police in South Korea over their profession Thursday with one jumping from a bridge to avoid arrest.

The masseurs gathered on a bridge over the Han River in Seoul to protest the government's decision to grant licenses to sighted workers.

The South Korean Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs recently started issuing body-massage licenses to skin aestheticians, angering the blind masseurs who have been the only ones allowed to work in the profession, United Press International reports.

Police detained dozens of blind masseurs on Thursday as they violently protested on the bridge. A banner unfurled by the workers denounced the Minister for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs.

The masseur who jumped off the bridge was rescued by police.
