Singapore's Miss World contestant has resigned after her conviction earlier this year for credit card fraud was revealed, a newspaper in the city-state reported Wednesday.

The Straits Times said Ris Low, 19, resigned Tuesday and will not represent Singapore at the contest in South Africa in December.

Local media last week reported she was sentenced to two years of probation for stealing credit cards and spending $5,642 on lingerie, cell phones and meals at fancy restaurants.

The Straits Times said Low told the newspaper she has bipolar disorder, which led her to go on the spending sprees.

Low's replacement for Miss World has not yet been chosen, the newspaper said.
