So many presidential candidates, so many choices. When you're Barbra Streisand, you don't have to pick.
Streisand, a friend and backer of former President Clinton, said in a statement Monday that she's giving money to Clinton's wife — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton — and Sen. Barack Obama and John Edwards.
"I'm very excited about the strength of the Democratic field for the 2008 presidential election, and I'm looking forward to a lively and healthy primary debate that discusses the key issues facing this country," Streisand wrote.
Her publicist, Dick Guttman, said the statement was released in response to news media inquiries about her favorites in the 2008 primaries.
"Because I want to see the front-runners have the financial backing they need to be competitive during this process, I've decided to make the maximum allowable primary donation to Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama," Streisand said in the statement, adding, "As the conversation continues, I may make contributions to other candidates as well."
The maximum amount she can contribute to each candidate is $2,300 for the primary, then she can give another $2,300 if one of them becomes the presidential challenger.
When Bill Clinton was in the White House, he had a strong relationship with Hollywood and the goodwill transferred to Mrs. Clinton in her two Senate races. Streisand, singer Jennifer Lopez and comedian Chris Rock donated to her Senate races in 2000 and 2006.
