A quick trip around Hannity's America...
Return of the Ban
It only took one month before the Obama administration revealed its plans to go after gun owners. Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder spoke to reporters at a news conference in Washington and said this:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ERIC HOLDER, U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL: As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
That was the attorney general arguing that reinstating a ban on assault weapons here in the United States would benefit Mexico. The ban, was signed into law by Bill Clinton and expired in 2004. The attorney general believes that bringing it back, this time on a permanent basis, would cut off the weapons flow across the U.S.-Mexico border, which he says has contributed to the increase in violence there.
But opponents say it has little impact as less than 6 percent of gun crimes committed here in the U.S. actually involve assault weapons. And if his confirmation hearing was any indication, the assault weapon ban would only be the beginning of this rollback on gun rights.
Mr. Attorney General, the second amendment is pretty clear and last time I checked, it doesn't mention anything about legislating on behalf of another country simply because they can't control their own border.
It's a Liberal Translation homecoming party: After a week's hiatus from the show, my buddy Robert Gibbs is back and is receiving our Liberal Translation treatment:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ROBERT GIBBS, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: The president remains concerned about, and I think this was a concern he shared with — even with his presidential opponent, about earmarks.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Oh no, not an earmarks question! Somebody pull the fire alarm!
GIBBS: In understanding how over the past few years they grew exponentially.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: And you ain't seen nothin' yet.
GIBBS: ... that we have seen a reduction in that growth recently.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Glad I got that out of my system. I can't say that after you people see our budget.
GIBBS: And that the president was extremely proud of the bill that Congress presented him that didn't contain those.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Pride. I wonder what that feels like?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Great job, Robert. There aren't a lot of people out there that could tell the American people there were no earmarks in that stimulus package with a straight face. You truly are one of a kind.
Like Father Like Son
How could the circus surrounding Illinois Senator Roland Burris get any crazier? Throw Roland Burris II into the mix.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the son of Mr. Burris was hired in September by the Blagojevich administration to serve as a senior counsel at the Illinois Housing Development Authority. In this position Roland Burris II is responsible for overseeing the states anti-foreclosure initiatives, and boy, is he qualified!
A few weeks before he was hired, Burris was hit with an IRS tax lien on his home to the tune of almost $35,000 and a foreclosure suit from his mortgage company. News of this hiring also puts the spotlight back on the quid pro quo allegations surrounding former governor Blagojevich's selection of Roland Burris as Barack Obama’s replacement in the Senate.
Senator Burris, you'll probably never hear me say this again, but listen to Dick Durbin. Get out while you can!
Good Deed Gone Bad
Normally after performing a good deed, good Samaritans are honored, maybe even given the key to the city. Well not so in Denver, where one good Samaritan was slapped with a jaywalking ticket for his troubles.
Jim Moffet, a veteran city bus driver made a stop last week to let two elderly women off the bus. When the women began struggling in the snow as they crossed the street, he got out to give them a hand. As he helped them, a pickup truck struck Moffet, but not before he was able to push the women to safety.
According to the Associated Press, Moffet was left hospitalized with very serious injuries. And what did the Colorado State Police give to him as a reward? A jaywalking citation!
We wish Mr. Moffet a speedy recovery and I think the folks in Hannity's America wouldn't mind knowing I would be very willing to pickup the tab for that ticket. You sir, are a great American.
