HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. – After a mechanical malfunction derailed their initial attempt, a Michigan bakery hopes to set a world record with 1,200-pound cupcake.
WHMI-FM reports Saturday that baker Ryan Abood's first attempt at a 7,000-pound cupcake was ruined overnight when the expanding cupcake dislodged a heating rod in its enormous oven.
After discovering the problem around midnight, Abood mixed up batter for the relatively smaller confection.
The cupcake has arrived at the Woodward Dream Cruise, a Detroit-area classic car event.
The sweet will be sold to raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation's Passionately Pink for the Cure.
The current Guinness World Records holder is a 150-pound cupcake.
