Are Barbie Dolls subversive? Our Saudi allies certainly think so. A Saudi organization called the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (search), otherwise known as the religious police, recently issued a sort of wanted poster for Barbie dolls.
Above a picture of a packaged Barbie (search) is issued the warning: "Jewish Doll!" The Arabic copy which follows explains: "Jewish Barbie Dolls with their naked clothing, Jewish positions and different samples and accessories, are symbols of decadence and of the perverted West. Let us recognize their danger and worry."
The religious police confiscate Barbie Dolls that are found in retail outlets. And according to the Saudi Institute, which translated the poster into English, the Barbie doll posters are distributed to schoolchildren, worshipers at mosques, and hospital patients.
All questions put to the religious police about Barbie confiscations--not to mention how they ascertained Barbie's Jewish identity--went unanswered.
And that's the Asman Observer.
