Amtrak Passenger Train Collides With Truck in North Carolina

An Amtrak passenger train struck a tractor trailer Wednesday morning in North Carolina, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.

The truck was at a railroad crossing in Harrisburg, N.C., when it collided with the train around 10 a.m. It wasn't clear if the truck was moving or stopped at the time.

None of the 10 passengers on the train were injured, Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell told FOXNews.com.

Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office Lt. James Bailey said the truck was sitting on the tracks and the driver wasn't in it at the time.

Bailey said the tractor-trailer was carrying construction materials that spilled into the roadway. Diesel fuel leaked from the truck but posed no immediate threat to residents.

Officials at the scene are considering whether to file charges against the driver.

The train left Raleigh, N.C., at 7:05 a.m. and was scheduled to get to Charlotte, N.C., at 10:14 a.m.

Amtrak vans were picking up train passengers and bringing them to Charlotte, Connell said.
