The roommate of murdered British student Meredith Kercher has denied arguing with her in the days before her death, calling her a "sweet and sensitive girl."
Amanda Knox has been in custody since November 6 - four days after the British student was found with her throat cut in the flat they shared in the city of Perugia.
"Meredith was sweet and sensitive," she told Italian newspaper La Repubblica. "It's not true we argued every day. I liked living with her."
Knox answered the paper's questions from behind bars - and admitted that she had been "intoxicated by freedom" when she moved to Italy.
"Sometimes I did things that I regret now," she said.
"But they were all just a product of my youth and enthusiasm for life. They certainly did not come from dark and wicked side of my personality."
The 20-year-old denied having anything to do with her flatmate's death and said she had been "stunned by the senseless tragedy".
"I have nothing to confess," she stated, claiming that the "confession" Italian police claimed to have got from her was nothing of the sort.
"I said the things which are now used against me in a state of great confusion," she explained.
Knox, who called herself 'Foxy Knoxy' on her MySpace profile, also attempted to portray a different image of herself to that built up by the tabloid press.
"I've had a few boyfriends, like everyone my age, and I remember them all. Some were important, others not," she said.
She described her relationship with fellow suspect Rafaelle Sollecito - her boyfriend - as "one of the most intense" of her life.
A second man, Rudy Hermann Guede, was arrested in Germany and extradited to Italy last week.
All three deny involvement in Miss Kercher's death.
Police said there was evidence to suggest the British student had been the victim of a violent sexual encounter.
